16 -- China will add more than 200 million kilowatts of new wind and photovoltaic power generation capacity next year as it accelerates the green and low-carbon transformation of its energy sector, according to the National Energy Work Conference 2026. China has refrained from setting ambitious goals for solar energy in its latest five-year plan, highlighting the sector’s mounting challenges after years of explosive growth. The plan released Thursday at the annual National People’s Congress stopped short of giving a target for solar installations. More than 50 large coal units were commissioned in 2025, up from fewer than 20 a year over the previous decade.

WiseGRID integrates, demonstrates and validates advanced ICT services and systems in the energy distribution grid in order to provide secure, sustainable and flexible smart grids and give more power to the European energy consumer. The project will combine an enhanced use of storage technologies, a highly increased share of Renewable Energy Sources. WiseGRID is an example of the way European projects have to look into the future when bringing novel energy solutions to the sector. The WiseGRID project provides a set of solutions, technologies and business models which increase the smartness, stability and security of an open, consumer-centric European energy grid and provide cleaner and more affordable energy for European citizens, through an enhanced use of storage.
